BUDDYVEG was initiated to address the issue of food waste. Grocery shopping not only brings us cooking ingredients but also a multitude of plastic packaging and non-recyclable items. BUDDYVEG presented an innovative approach to this problem by providing fresh vegetables at home, helping you get started on a sustainable gardening journey and, in the process, reducing the loneliness of isolated living.
BUDDYVEG aimed to alleviate the loneliness of students living alone in cities. Through extensive user research and interviews, we discovered that some students grow edible plants not only for consumption but also for their aesthetic appeal. We also found that, although plants indirectly serve as companions for our target group — since most dormitories and flats do not allow pets — difficulties remain in understanding the needs of plants, unlike pets that can communicate.

BUDDYVEG
BUDDYVEG's ecosystem comprises BuddyPin, BuddyPot, and the BuddyVeg application. BuddyPin allows users to wear their saplings as accessories, fostering early bonds between the users and their young plants. BuddyPot, connected to the BuddyVeg application, enables users understand their plants' needs and interact with them through various activities, such as playing music using the plant's leaves via the pot's built-in sensors. With the BUDDYVEG gardening kit, city dwellers can enjoy a sense of companionship and find gardening a more accessible hobby, while also reducing waste from leftover ingredients and packaging.
